Exactly one month ago, I surprised my knight on his birthday with a day trip to Stuttgart. Since there is no better present than spending time together and discovering new places, right?

We left Frankfurt very early, so that we first had breakfast at this wonderful café directly at the market place. The sun was shining at 10 am already, which promised that it was going to be a beautiful day. We had coffee and a breakfast special for two people, which was simply amazing. Croissants, rolls, meats and cheeses, melon and yogurt with fresh fruit. Especially yummy were the homemade jams: peach and strawberry. Only because of them, the café is worth a visit. But Stuttgart has more to offer than extraordinary breakfast.

South Africa Impressions

Tag: Delights,Photography,TravelChrissara @ 11:50 am

Finally, the photos from my vacation in South Africa are sorted and (partly) edited. In the end, I still have close to 1000 photos in the folder. Oh well, that is what happens, if you are handling a Nikon D90 for the first time in length and detail. Yay! Here a small Best-Of South Africa Impressions for you taken during wonderful and interesting two weeks around Cape Town and Garden Route.

From one home to the other home

Tag: TravelChrissara @ 9:46 am

When I sat in terminal 4 at JFK International Airport in New York City on a Wednesday evening, I was fine. When I started boarding, I was still fine. But when the plane started to take off and we flew over the glittering lights of the city, I was not fine anymore. A big knot developed in my stomach and my neck felt like it was being strangled by a rope. I was gloomy.

South Africa – Thoughts and Discoveries

Tag: TravelChrissara @ 6:03 pm

For all together ten days I escaped the German winter almost eleven flight hours away to South Africa. Now, I returned, together with many new impressions. The country is extraordinary and it will take a few days until I can grasp all the things I actually saw there.

During my vacation, my little, black piece of life was carried along, as so often: my Moleskine calender. In it I wrote down things, which I noticed throughout my stay in the Eastern and Western Cape. Things, which were different, especially interesting or funny. Photographic impressions will follow within the next days. Because fascination and enthusiasm ends in 1840 photos with me…

First post from New York City

Tag: (Non)sense,TravelChrissara @ 8:45 pm

The departure in Frankfurt was everything else but fast and great. Not even 12 hourse before my flight was supposed to depart to JFK, I recieved a short message from my airline, saying that my flight was resceduled from 8:30 am to 09:55 am. Later at the airport I was told that it may be even delayed more. After the goodbyes (note to myself: I still hate saying goodbye and letting go), I went through security rather quickly and waited at the gate. And waited. And waited. Boarding only started shortly after 10 am, in the end the plane took off at 11:15 am.

The flight itself was not the greatest either. Not only that there were strong headwinds, but there were also bad turbulences. So I could not really sleep and arrived at JFK rather unsettled. But I did get my suitcase fast and warm sunbeams tickled my skin. And I landed safely, after all that is the most important thing.

Talk to you soon; or: here I go…

Tag: TravelChrissara @ 11:41 pm

The suitcase is packed, the ticket printed and there are only a few hours left until I will be driven to the airport. At 8:30 a.m. the plane will take off with the destination New York City and my abroad experience begins. Even now, shortly before, everything seems unreal a little and I have this unknown feeling. A feeling between glee, excitement and sadness.

Hamburg, my treasure

Tag: Delights,TravelChrissara @ 10:26 am

What does one do, before travelling to the States for three months? Right, one travels in ones own country for one last time. In my case, I travelled, together with a lovely travel companion, up north to Hamburg. It was my third visit to the city and so much before hand: i love this city.

After a five hour, very stretched car drive, we were finally there. In the “Schanzenviertel” in a dead end street, over a nice cafe, in a 70 square meter apartment decorated in the style of the Sixties. At the black wooden table we planned our following days and then decided to walk around the area. The Schanzenviertel reminded us a little of Frankfurt’s city part “Bornheim”, not only because of the parking situation, but also because of the buildings and the little stores in the small streets.

Final rehearsal: I’m going on a trip and pack…

Tag: (Non)sense,TravelChrissara @ 8:07 pm

With my only 21 years of age, I have traveled alot. Once a year at least. And still the question always arises again: how do I pack, as little as possible, but as much as is necessary, in order to not stand without X or Y in another city? The check-list is written, although not in any thematic order. But how am I supposed to get all that into a small, but very fine, bag? Do I really need everything? More importantly: did I really not forget anything?

Weekend getaway – Wetzlar, Hesse

Tag: Photography,TravelChrissara @ 7:05 pm

Last weekend a few friends and I packed our bags and headed towards Wetzlar, Hesse for a weekend getaway. Because a few things will be changing with our group, we wanted to go on a short vacation together. We all did not have time for a longer vacation, but our goal was to simply spend time together anyways.

Weekend getaway – Ilmenau, Thuringia

Tag: TravelChrissara @ 9:37 pm

A long weekend always is the best opportunity to travel. Here in Germany, Thursday, 03 June, Corpus Christi is an official holiday. This weekend I made my way towards the state Thuringia to the ‘city’ of Ilmenau.

Why I am going there? During my radio internship I had mentioned another intern there. She studies technical media in Ilmenau and since we were missing each other, we said we needed to see each other again. So I grabbed the family car, a bag, music for the ride, a navigation system I borrowed from a friend and drove off on Thursday morning. Continue reading “Weekend getaway – Ilmenau, Thuringia”
