Things happen. Things stay, things change. Mostly, we live our lives the way we know it and how we have done it for a long period of time. But sometimes one gets opportunities, which open a new door. The difficulty is to find the courage to take the chance and walk through that door. Even if that means that one needs to leave the world one has lived in for a while. Sometimes it is only a moment, sometimes a few days, sometimes even several years. In my case it is 85 days.

Yes, I am still one of those, who are studying to the traditional German degree called ‘Magistra Artium’. That means: 4 semesters basic studies and 4 semesters main studies. After the basic studies, you have to do an oral mid-term-studies exam on one of your seminar papers from your major – in my case: American Studies. The oral exam is minimum 15 Minutes, maximum 30 minutes long.
Since I am planning a longer stay abroad in the US and my professor, who I want to hold the mid-term-studies exam will not be at University starting August, my exam will be preferred. I was expecting a date around June / July.
On last Thursday, the date was set. In almost exactly one month, on May 28th at 11a.m. I will have to deal with ”The Influence of the First Ladies on the American Women in the 20th Century”.
In almost exactly one month, on May 28th at 11:31a.m., I will (hopefully!) be greeted by friends and we will spend a wonderful, relaxed afternoon in the park.
Yesterday I had my last internship day at the radio station. I brought yummy Chocolate-Brownie-Cake with me to say goodbye and already was dismissed at 3:30pm into my completely free weekend. That’s also about how my work hours were the rest of the week.
My last week was again shorter, since Easter Monday was a holiday here. And also in the rest of the world it was really quite. But one really big highlight followed: Continue reading “Radio-Internship: Week 8 – Finale”
I really don’t know where this week went. All I remember that it was Monday and then suddenly Friday.
The week started out with me being able to think about a topic, which I wanted to write about. I chose “Get ready for Spring” and researched several topics for the theme. I ended up writing about how to get your bike and car ready for spring; how to do your spring cleaning so it’s fun; Spring Fashion Trends 2010 and how to get yourself going for Spring. The best part was that my boss hardly changed the texts and really liked my work. A good start into the week! Continue reading “Radio-Internship: Week 3″
And the second week is over already. I seriously don’t know where it went. The second week started how the first week ended: I wrote about the V.I.P s and starlets.
On Tuesday was my big day: I wrote about Giant George, the largest dog in the world. And landed on the homepage! All the way at the bottom, but hey, I thought that was pretty cool! Continue reading “Radio-Internship: Week 2″
Actually I assumed that I had a good orientation sense. But yesterday it was different. After my tour through the place in my first week, I could find all the important things blindfolded. I had no problem what so ever to find the coffee maker, bathroom and my work place. But the hard part came, when I had to settle some paperwork and I had to go to the second floor. Continue reading “Orientation – Radio-Internship: Week 1 1/2″
Yes, I still exist. I’m very sorry for not posting this whole week, but therefore here you’ll get a full update on my internship that started on Monday…
Let’s go back into the old year 2009 for a minute: Last summer, shortly before my vacation in the US, I stumbled over an ad on the website of a local radio station. They were looking for an intern for their online-editor team. Interesting, I thought immediately. But the time frame they were looking for did not fit into my semester breaks. I wrote an e-mail anyways, was able to submit my resume, got an interview two days later and was offered the spot!
