Movie time: January 2010
As I posted earlier (Film season is here), I am interested in seeing a few movies that will be released this season. Since I sometimes lose track and then later think ‘Oh no, you missed out on that one.’, I thought I could just share my plans with you and post my lists here. This is my list for January. The opening dates are the ones in Germany, so if you’re interested in checking the movie openings in your area, check out www.imdb.com. In the US movies should be in theatres a few weeks earlier! I am open to any other suggestions, or if you have seen one of the movies already, be sure to tell me if it paid off.
“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” (opening Jan 7th, 2010) -
The last movie with Heath Ledger, who died under sad circumstances this year, while the movie was being shot. He was a incredible actor and his death is a big loss for the movie industry. After Ledger’s death, the director got Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell to split Ledger’s part and changed the story accordingly. They will donate their earnings to Ledger’s daughter, Matilda. ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ is a Fantasy movie and deals with an old man, Dr. Parnassus, who made a deal with the devil to live forever. Then, when he falls in love, he wishes to be young again and promises his first born to the devil, if he will make his wish possible… I want to go and see this movie, because it sounds like a storyline that has not been around lately. But predominately, like probably many others, I am going to see this movie to see Ledger in his last movie and pay my personal tribute to him.
“Did You Hear About the Morgans?” (opening Jan 7th, 2010) -
Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant play a New York, high-society couple who’s marriage is slowly but surely going downhill. One night, they are witnesses of a homicide and are sent to Wyoming into a witness-protection-program. And soon their marriage is not their only problem anymore. The movie sounds quite funny and so did the trailer. I think it will either be a real bummer or a real flop.
“The Lovely Bones” (opening Jan 14th, 2010) -
A new Peter Jackson film about a 14-year-old girl who is killed and finds herself stuck in an own world. She watches how her family tries to deal with her death and how the murderer seemingly gets away with it. Really interested in seeing this movie, since Peter Jackson is a great director and know how to tell a story. The movie is based on the novel from Alice Sebold of the same title. Hopefully I can find the time and read the book before seeing the movie, since I like to know the original first.
