Goodbye, 2009!

The year 2009 is coming to its end. Tonight I will be sitting together with my closest friends, having a buffet, drinking beer and simply sitting together, celebrating into the new year. Towards the end of the year, you can find many flashback shows, articles and stories all over the place. In this blog, you’ll also be getting one. But not the ones you have seen so far. This is my personal flashback of the year, what delighted me, what got me upset, and mostly the answer to the question: “Chrissara, how was your year 2009?”

Movie time: January 2010

Tag: MBFChrissara @ 8:53 pm

As I posted earlier (Film season is here), I am interested in seeing a few movies that will be released this season. Since I sometimes lose track and then later think ‘Oh no, you missed out on that one.’, I thought I could just share my plans with you and post my lists here. This is my list for January. The opening dates are the ones in Germany, so if you’re interested in checking the movie openings in your area, check out www.imdb.com. In the US movies should be in theatres a few weeks earlier! I am open to any other suggestions, or if you have seen one of the movies already, be sure to tell me if it paid off.

“It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags.
Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store. Maybe Christmas…

…means a little bit more.”

- The Grinch

****Wishing you a very Merry Christmas! Enjoy the Holidays with your loved ones and relax!***

(Because of this, it will be a bit quite here during the Christmas Holidays. But I’ll be back – so stay tuned.)

Snow, Snow and Snow!

Tag: (Non)sense,Delights,PhotographyChrissara @ 5:41 pm

After the USA having so much of it these days, it finally made it here: Snow! After not having nice, fluffy, lasting snow in years, yesterday it snowed for a few hours and turned Frankfurt into a Winter Wonderland. I am excited and am crossing fingers that a) it will stay until Christmas or / and b) it will snow again. For me there is nothing more beautiful than waking up on Christmas Day and looking out the window to see the world covered in snow. My fingers are crossed!

The Spirit of Christmas

Tag: DelightsChrissara @ 1:21 pm

Christmas is practically around the corner (six more days!) and compared to last year, this year I am in Christmas Spirits. The past week I have been buying presents, baking cookies and looking out the window and watching the snow fall down on the ground.

This morning when I was checking the news online, I found a wonderful story on CNN.com that actually made me teary-eyed.

Now My Blog is Eco-Friendly!

Tag: Delights,PoliticsChrissara @ 6:22 pm

Not only because the world climate conference is currently on in Copenhagen, but also whole year around we should take care of our enviornment.

Through this blog entry I learned about the campaign “Machs Grün!” (engl: Do it green!) from kaufda. The idea behind this campaign is that by planting one tree, you can neutralize the CO2-emission which one blog creates. The servers, on which all the blogs are saved, the cooling systems and computers need a big amount of electricity: On average, one page view causes 0,02g (0,0008oz.) CO2. Meaning that with about 15000 views a month, one blog creates 3,2kg (8lbs.) CO2 a year! The CO2 emission reduction a tree creates is 5kg (11lbs.) annually.

This is a wonderful campaign and this is why I am being part of it. And I pledge to all of you other bloggers / website owners to do the same.

How you can participate?

It is actually really easy: Post an article about this campaign, embedd one of the bottons on your site and send an email with the link of your site to CO2-neutral@kaufda.de . And your tree will be planted and your site is now eco-friendly!

(You can find the campaign by clicking on the button on the right.)

Hug A Tree

Tag: PoliticsChrissara @ 9:56 pm

Until December 17th many politicians from all over the globe are attending the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (or in short: climate summit) in Copenhagen. I hope dearly that they will come to a few helpful conclusions to increase the attention to nature and climate change.

Until then I propose to you to show your nature love and hug a tree! :)

Film season is here

Tag: Delights,MBFChrissara @ 6:18 pm

After going to the movies last night, I realized that I have been to the movies three times within the last two weeks. Which means: Film season is finally here again! Additionally, in the previews before the main movie there were many movies where I thought “I have to see that one!” Probably will be spending many evenings in the movies this season again…

Films seen so far this season (1: worst nightmare; 10: needed on dvd immediately):
All Inclusive (6/10), Twilight – New Moon (7/10) and Zweiohrküken (8/10).

Update: Current Student Protests

Tag: Politics,Student natureChrissara @ 4:24 pm

Just yesterday I wrote about the current student protests going on here in Frankfurt and now I again have something to write about it. Last night the barricated building was evacuated by the Frankfurt police.

I had university until 6 p.m. yesterday and wondered, along with a few of my fellow students, why 27 police cars rushed by us with sirens and lights. We were philosophing about a bank robbery or something to the extent, but when I came home, I found out what was actually going on. Over a Twitter account from a guy being right in the middle of it all, you were able to follow the happenings promptly. Later on a regional tv station broadcasted a report. It seems that things went haywire: The police are reporting that the operation went smooth, the students that were present claim the police acted brutal. Furthermore they are now demanding the resignation of the university president, because he did not announce the evacuation before hand.

Current Student Protests

Tag: Politics,Student natureChrissara @ 1:15 pm

When I started thinking about writing about the current student protests going on here in Germany, my first thought was to which category I should tag this article with. Some of you may say that it is obviously the “Delights” one, because of the understanding for the content and reasoning of the protests. But then again, I think you cannot leave out the “Absurdities” tag, because there is also so much stuff going very wrong this week during these protests.
