3rd semester – week one.

The first week back at university is over. Well, actually today is my second day of the weekend already, since I again was lucky enough not to have any courses on Fridays. On monday morning I was happy to go back to university again – new courses, familiar faces, meeting friends and also simply having a daily routine again. You do need that from time to time. At the beginning of the semester (it is my third already, yikes!) everything is exciting, since it seems like everything is new again.

Right in my first seminar (the third part of a language skills course I have to visit) I knew again, why I just love my major: The professor walked into class with a mask on her face – like the ones from a carneval in Venice. That she simply wanted to show us, how important it is to look behind a character when writing an own short story, was only revealed 30 minutes later.

Other professors are not as funny – a politics seminar is (again) well visited and (again) the room is too small for the amount of students. Professor: “Everyone who is beyond the tenth row has to leave! There is no more room.” It does not matter to him that it is an introduction course which everyone who studies Political Science has to visit, or that the people who were sitting in the back rows had been in the room first… Good thing I was only there for fun and do not have to deal with that problem. But anyways it is mad! Sociologists seem to talk things like that rather easy: 60 students are sitting in a room, which is actually only made for about 40, because they are interested in a Sociology topic. All what the professor has to say is: “Well, winter is just around the corner and it’s gonna be cold. So we’ll just warm each other up then. I mean, it is a seminar about relationships anyways.”

All in all my first week in semester number three went well. I can cope with the fact that some professors apparently have chosen the wrong job, because on the other hand there are also many who are in the right place. The seminars I have chosen all seem to be interesting and I hope dearly that not one of them turns out to be a bummer. Beyond that I know at least one in every seminar already – meaning there is also going to be lots of fun too this semester.
